Phillips Lake Disbursed

This is a disbursed site, call it Phillips Lake Disbursed.

This site is not difficult to access or require more then minimal dirt road driving plus it has ready access to dump/water fill places. It should appeal to LD owners except for the hardcore concrete campers. Sadly, the campsites are dirt.

This is the view from this camping area.

Phillips Lake Disbursed

It's a disbursed (free)  camping area directly on a beautiful marsh in Wallowa-Whitman NF. There are trails leading to Phillips Lake and through the marsh areas. The view from the campsite is the marsh, then a stand of mixed conifers, then the mountains of the Elkhorn Ridge.

The nearby Union Creek campground has drinking water and a dump station, for a fee, as well as FHU sites.  Baker City is convenient for shopping, restaurants, and such. The Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area is about 15 minutes away.

Directions: About 15 miles SW of Baker, OR on OR 7 two miles, or so, past the entry road to the FS campground called Union Creek. Turn south on Hudspeth Lane for perhaps a 1/3 mile. On your left you will see a good quality dirt road leading to a large clearing on a marsh. Room for 5, or so, rigs. 44.68769 -118.09142 There are other disbursed areas nearby that are readily visible from Hudspeth Lane.
